This was my first book by this author and I’m VERY impressed, I loved everything about this book!! The writing was mature and well thought out, well edited (important now-a-days) and the plot was refreshing.College romances are usually a little bit flippant and a whole lot of saucy fun but this one had an edge of realness that I haven’t read in awhile. Our main characters Drew and Anna are two people who have serious reservations when it comes to relationships but Drew has always expected to find his “one” and just know. Anna is the exact opposite. No kissing, no dating, no sleepovers. She’s not opposed to sex but she can’t trust relationships.Their love started as lust, almost instant lust (which can either be unbelievable or it can be well done - this was well done). They had chemistry from the jump and I was ABOUT IT. It was seriously hot.But as their arrangement got more serious, the plot thickened with what I LOVE to see in books. True, haunting, and dark insecurities. Real fear of falling in love and not having it returned or even the fear of falling in love, period. Anna has her reasons for being who she is and Drew has his reasons for only wanting her.I want my contemporary/New Adult romances to be realistic with a smattering of true heartbreak in there and this, my friends, had it. This story was beautiful and real. Also Drew is hot as you know what. So. Can’t go wrong. There is something so loveable about a story that follows two young adults as they begin to maneuver their way around the end of their childhood, and experience adulthood for the first time. We spend hours upon hours searching for that perfect book, with the perfect storyline, about two characters who we hope to fall head over heals in love with. And nine times out of ten, we fail. But then a book like this comes along and completely takes you by surprise. It sweeps you off your feet and takes you away to a world where college frat parties become the starting point of one of the most amazing college romances, and all our troubles disappear.No-one sees Anna Jones. They never have. And they’ve made her feel ugly, unworthy and isolated in the process. Her childhood was one she would rather forget, and after seeing first hand how her mother had her heart broken more than she cared to count, Anna vowed to never become that woman. She would never allow herself to become vulnerable to a man, to fall in love. So she moved cities, started her life again with her two best-friends and believed it was all she needed in her life to be happy.Until Drew.“He’s slowly carving his name into my heart. And it hurts.”Drew Baylor is the gorgeous quarterback everyone loves. In fact he’s probably one of my favourite book boyfriends right now. But underneath his confident exterior, there’s a lonely guy longing for someone in his life. After the death of his parents, he was left with more than enough money to support himself, but that wasn’t enough. Until the gorgeous, firey, stubborn redhead sitting next to him in class leaves him completely speechless, he’s never wanted anything more.“She glared at me. I didn’t care. One word was playing a loop in my head: mine.”This story begins as a seriously addictive friends – with – benefits arrangement, where regular hook-ups set the pages of my kindle on fire in every single chapter. These two have exceptional chemistry. The witty dialogue and fun banter were what had drawn me to keep reading in the first place. The epilogue was one of the best I’ve ever read. I’m always looking for a book to draw me in and hook me from the very first chapter, and this book did just that.Drew and Anna had a lot of moments where my heart just ached for them. Anna was really struggling with accepting what Drew wanted from her. She had removed the thought of settling down with anyone from her mind, yet Drew wants no-one but her. This added a whole new level of angst to the story as they navigated their way around these emotions they had no idea had snuck up on them. And I’ll be honest, I put my kindle down a few times for a breather. My heart ached for them both.“Drew doesn’t make me feel like myself. He makes me feel better than myself. As if there is a little broken part in me, rattling and loose, and whenever he’s near it falls into place and tightens. The thought has me withdrawing, sinking into that cold, thick place that chokes me. I’m beginning to need him too much.”Among the heartache, there was so much love. And there was heaps of fun banter between Anna and Drew as well Anna and her best-friends Iris and George – and these scenes had me smiling like an idiot! Their romance was a gorgeous, hot mess that I couldn’t get enough of. It made me kick myself for waiting so long to give this series a go, but I’m sooooo glad I finally did!You should definitely start with this book. I’ve added the rest of the series below in order. I’ve now read book 1 & 4 (read my review here), and feel as though you can read them on their own, but as always, the interconnecting stories and characters are always nice to know from the beginning.
