When Ginny sent the email that ALWAYS FORWARD was available for purchase I immediately downloaded #9. I originally began with Book #1 and have grown attached to each character as I have read the series in order. I was impatient for this newest book to be published. I stopped everything in my life that could be stopped and began reading immediately and into early hours of the morning. When I read Bregdan Chronicles, I always feel as though I am a valued part of Carrie, Robert, Abby, Thomas, Rose, Moses, Annie, and so many others lives. I feel I am a part of their unique family. I enjoy laughing and crying with them. I rejoice in their joys and mourn with their sorrows. I worry with them regarding their concerns and fears. It is hard for me to accept that they are fictional characters because Ginny writes in such a way that I feel each person is real. Since I began the series a while ago, when old characters returned to Cromwell Plantation, I struggled with remembering their place in the story. I appreciate the way that Ginny quickly incorporates clues and memories in the discussions to help me remember them from the past. Just like at a family reunion, I am reminded about the person and how they fit into my memory of them.While readying ALWAYS FORWARD I felt like I was at a family reunion - where we get to share our joys, sorrows, pain, despair, acceptance, and above all LOVE with one another. Since my personal life is presenting similar struggles as those in ALWAYS FORWARD, I found the remarkable wisdom which Ginny weaves throughout all the Bregdan Chronicles series to be emotionally healing. I've made a note to myself to definitely read this book again when my time to mourn arrives to show me the way to emotionally heal. I gained much hope that I, too, can heal and always move forward in my life. As for my life today, I so much needed the wisdom that "...life will always be full of ups and downs, suffering and joy... it is so important to embrace the joy fully, pulling it into every part of your being, because you will need it there when the next hard times start. You'll need the joy to balance the grief, and to remind you that the sunrise always follows the darkness."While I wait for Book #10 (Walking Into the Unknown), I've decided to read Bregdan Chronicles again, beginning with Book #1 and make a journal of the powerful insights and wisdom that Ginny shares throughout the series. I would love to know more about Ginny and how she has gained her incredible wisdom. (I picture Ginny to be a lot like Abby.) Hopefully, one day when my life is more settled, I can make a journey to the east coast to attend one of Ginny's fan dinners. Oh, how joyful that experience will be for me! I'll just keep moving forward and see where my life takes me.If you are new to the Bregdan Chronicles series, I suggest you begin with Book #1. The research that Ginny puts into each of these historical fiction books is astounding. I've learned so much about life during and after the Civil War - from both the north and the south perspective. If your experience is anything similar to mine, you will learn beautiful concepts about life and living. Hopefully, you too will be inspired to live more abundantly and with love and acceptance for everyone you interact with every day.Thanks so much Ginny! I'll be anxiously awaiting #10. I'm not even finished with this particular book yet but I feel like a veteran having read the previous series. No, I didn't see what was coming but the way in which it was described caused me to step into the story & feel deep down the anguish, horror and futility of what happens. Ginny weaves such a tale that you feel as though you are right there. What must it have been like to be surrounded with the fear and anxiety of not knowing safety? How was it to live with the reality every day could be your last all due to the prevailing hatred that seeped into places & people you had little idea could hate that much? There are so many parallels to 2019 and the divided nation we are today. Have we as a society truly moved beyond the mistrust of races or folks we don't know? How would it be to live in a world who judged you solely on the color of your skin? Or if you defended the persecuted you were equally as wrong? Are the racial differences of 2019 all that different from 1867? This is a remarkable story revealing the roots of southern & some northern hatred of the blacks but the overwhelming intolerance & ignorance permeating every section of society in the days following the Civil War. It's a riveting story with characters and emotions so easily identifiable because they lead their lives amidst all the history we have studied in school about those times. What's so different about learning the details in this manner is almost becoming a piece of the action. After reading about the struggles, disappointments, joys and horrendous sorrows it's as though I'm living right along side each of them.My only real criticism is there are a number of errors, spelling & grammatical as well as the printing process never having been checked. It's disconcerting to read the name of the next chapter at the bottom of the page and then the next page is blank because someone didn't correct the printing. Somewhat like a lovely painting framed with scotch tape. All the work, detail, historical facts and beautiful literature cheaply put together as though the story didn't warrant editing. Huh?
